Grant Recipients

Mission Statement

The For Julie Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity, whose main mission is to find and provide initial funding to innovative investigators of leukemia and blood cancer research projects until they can find major funding sources. These research projects are selected by our team of medical advisors from Harvard Medical School led by Julie's Uncle Dan, a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Along with Julie's uncle, our team of medical advisors include Dr. Howard Weinstein, Dr. David Ebb, and Dr. David Sweetser, all members of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Service.

Grant Proposals

The emphasis of the grant-funding arm of the For Julie Foundation is on the initiation and furtherance of medical research that will help to address the treatment of childhood leukemia. Grants are preferred that have direct relevance to innovative approaches in the treatment of pediatric leukemia, in particular those grants that address the problems of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML).

Research proposals may be laboratory based or translational. Please submit a brief proposal (less than 3 pages) and include the CV of the PI and a letter of support from the division chief or designee. Proposals should be sent to Dr. Daniel Doody, Massachusetts General Hospital, Warren 1126, Fruit Street, Boston, MA 02114. e-mail address: doody.daniel@mgh.harvard.edu.

"In my short career, I have been affected more by my patients with AML than any other cancer. I love the time I get to spend with my patients in the clinic or the BMT unit, but equally love the time I spend working in the lab on their behalf. I firmly believe that the key to improving the outcome of this disease will be in understanding the body's immune response to AML blasts, and with God's grace, hope someday to translate my lab findings directly to new clinical trials."
